The federal government has approved the increase in electricity rates for commercial, agricultural and large consumers. While the lower class people are affected by the increase in these basic tariffs, the middle class and upper class people are worried.

Commercial customers will now pay an additional Rs 8 per unit, the agricultural sector will pay an additional Rs 6.5 per unit, and big consumers will pay an additional Rs 5.5 per unit. Commercial customers would pay an additional Rs 8.04 per unit beginning in July, for a total rate of Rs 77.15 per unit.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Pakistan have signed a new staff-level loan arrangement that would see the country receive $7 billion over 37 months. This is important to recognize. It will be the IMF Executive Board that grants the loan final approval.
According to a statement released by the IMF’s Mission Chief in Nathan Porter, it was stated that “The Pakistani authorities and the IMF team have reached a staff-level agreement on a comprehensive program endorsed by the federal and provincial governments, that could be supported by a 37-month Extended Fund Arrangement (EFF) in the amount equivalent to SDR 5,320 million (or about US$7 billion at current exchange rates).”
